Hartley Wintney Village Festival Artwork

Here is a selection of my artwork selling at the Hartley Wintney Village Festival this Saturday 8th June.  Yes, I know I haven't posted up work for a long time but I promise I've been busy! The black and white prints above have been made in to cards as well as the coloured images.

Hartley Green House and the Cricketers Pub

Here is some latest commission work, one of three; I have yet to finish the other two. Such a gorgeous house with beautiful gardens which run around the whole of the house. I dream.........

The Cricketers Pub on the Cricket Green in Hartley Wintney. I have made some very spontaneous drawings around the village for the Festival this year. Yesterday, Bank Holiday Monday, I took photos and sketched the fun fair looking through the trees which I will use for further work. I intend to get a few of these made up in to greetings cards to sell.

Hartley Wintney June Festival and lack of blogs....

The idea of posting around once a week has fallen by the wayside..... However, now the village festival is looming I need to crack on and start putting together a body of sketches, watercolour sketches and pen and ink drawings to sell. So, this means I am going to be publishing some of these pieces on this blog and it will keep me on my toes!

I am also going to post up a painting of a client's lovely garden which I have been working on. I need to do three paintings and I have only done one! Also, the weather is crap and my garden is awful. Not to mention my allotment....

On the beach near Saltash, Cornwall

At last I have managed to post a sketch made on the beach near Saltash, Cornwall while walking with my friend Julie and her dog. It was a lovely stay and good to get a way from Hartley Wintney. Now I am back and I have just had the kids half term while I have been back at work. One positive thing is the halved amount of time travelling in to work; I really hadn't realised how much traffic the schools generate!

Jack's Swan

This week, Jack had to do a drawing for his art homework of a person or animal in motion. "It has to be", he said, "from my own photograph or drawn from life and not someone else's work". So last Saturday we went off to Fleet Pond and walked all around the perimeter. I had both Holly and Jack with me and they took it in turns to use my camera. The sun was actually out and the light was lovely. Jack took pictures of the swans and used these to do his drawing. He looked at a tutorial on sketching swans on YouTube to research the best technique. He told me, "I decided to use cross hatching and think it was quite effective".  (The left of the picture is not really dark- this is my scanner not able to fit it all in!)

I'm off to see a friend in Cornwall tomorrow and will take my sketchbook. It's the college half term next week so I will hopefully be able to publish a few sketches when I get back on Tuesday evening.

Come on Spring

At last after a little break I am uploading a sketch of a path up in the heath in front of our house. It's a path I run up as I head back towards home. Although showery today there were glimpses of sun and it actually felt warm, lifting my spirits tremendously. I can't wait for the days to get lighter and the weather to calm down. Kids have horrible colds and have been off school feeling ill, sick and miserable, the garden looks terrible and to cap it all someone at work said I looked 'very tired and pale'. Great.

So come on Spring, lets have some warm, dry sunny days and happy healthy children.

Father Christmas on the Guitar

So a year is up with a sketch a day, although I still owe one for yesterday and this will be added to January 20th by the end of the week. Above is the sketch for today. I started with Jack, so I wanted to end with Jack. Why he decided to put the Father Christmas hat on and practise his guitar is beyond me. But it does make a good sketch.

As for the future of the blog I think I will update the site at least every week with exciting highlights, kids stuff, College stuff and basically anything which catches my interest and is good to sketch. Oh yes, I will also post up current art stuff I am working on as well as paintings and sketches for the Hartley Wintney Summer Festival.  I also have a Facebook page and will be posting selected artwork up there.  Please have a look at my on line portfolio with all my commission work (I need to update and add to this!), its:

So please keep in touch and have a look!
